NKOKO NKITINKITI” HOUSEHOLD AND BACKYARD POULTRY PRODUCTION INITIATIVE

President John Dramani Mahama has launched a major national poultry revitalisation effort called the Nkoko Nkitinkiti” Household and Backyard Poultry Production Initiative as part of the broader Feed Ghana Programme aimed at improving food security, strengthening local poultry production, creating livelihoods, and reducing dependence on imported frozen chicken products.

The project was officially launched in Kumasi on 12 November 2025, where President Mahama described it as a movement to restore food self-sufficiency and empower households across all 276 constituencies in Ghana. Under the programme, the government plans to distribute a total of three million poultry birds nationwide ensuring that every constituency, including Okere, is part of the rollout plan.

Okere  received a consignment of “Nkoko Inkitinkitin” birds on the 17th February, 2026 for onward distribution to poultry farmers across the district as part of efforts to boost local poultry production and improve livelihoods. The Agric department received the birds and they are taking care of them. They will care for the birds for four weeks before distribution. A total of 10,000 birds were received and 200 poultry farmers will benefit from this program
