Construction of a new pipeline network has commenced in Akonde within the Okere District as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and reliable drinking water in the area. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
After the handing over of the pipelines to the people of Akonde on 2nd October, 2025, construction begun on 19th October, 2025. The District Chief Executive (DCE) was present at the project site to witness the official start of work and to reaffirm the Assembly’s commitment to expanding essential water infrastructure to underserved communities. Contractors have mobilized machinery and personnel, signalling the beginning of a major intervention expected to transform water distribution in Akonde and surrounding communities.

Local authorities emphasize that the project will not only enhance public health but also support economic activities and reduce the burden on residents particularly women and children who often travel long distances to access potable water.

The pipeline construction marks a significant milestone in the district’s development agenda and contributes to national efforts toward universal access to clean water.
