The Okere District Assembly has officially performed a sod-cutting ceremony for the commencement of the construction of the much-anticipated 24-Hour Economy Market at Abiriw-Akuapem.
The landmark event brought together distinguished government officials, traditional authorities, assembly members, heads of departments, religious leaders, market women, youth groups, and members of the general public to witness the beginning of a transformative development project aimed at promoting economic growth and improving trading activities within the district.
Among the dignitaries present were the Okere Member of Parliament, Hon. Daniel Kenneth; the District Chief Executive for Okere, Hon. Williams Eric Kofi Ayettey; the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey; Nifa Hene, Osuodumgya Nana Otutu Ababio V; Akuapemhene, Obremponkesey Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III; the Abiriw Hene; as well as several traditional rulers and opinion leaders from across the district.
In his remarks, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Williams Eric Kofi Ayettey, expressed gratitude to the government and all stakeholders for supporting the initiative, emphasizing that the project forms part of efforts to promote local economic development, create employment opportunities, and provide a modern trading environment for traders and residents.
The Okere Member of Parliament, Hon. Daniel Kenneth, also reiterated the government’s commitment to infrastructural development and the enhancement of economic activities within the district through strategic investment projects such as the 24-hour economy market initiative.
Traditional leaders present at the ceremony commended the Assembly and government for the intervention and appealed to residents and traders to support the successful execution of the project for the benefit of the entire district.
The 24-Hour Economy Market project is expected to improve commercial activities, create jobs, increase local revenue generation, and provide a conducive and modern marketplace for traders and consumers alike.
The ceremony ended with prayers, goodwill messages, and the official turning of the sod to signify the commencement of construction works.
