The Okere District Assembly joined the rest of the country in commemorating Ghana Independence Day with a vibrant ceremony staged in the district.
To commemorate Ghana’s 69th anniversary of independence, schoolchildren, traditional leaders, assembly members, security personnel, and members of the general public gathered. March pasts by various basic schools, including the Adukrom special needs unit, were a prominent highlight of the event, exhibiting discipline and patriotism among the students. The celebration culminates with the display of an art piece of the Speaker of Parliament created by a bright young Ghanaian boy from the little town of Mintakrom who has remarkable pencil skills. The former and present Okere MP thanked him for his efforts and encouraged him to keep them up.
In an address presented on the occasion, District Chief Executive Hon. Eric Williams Ayettey urged citizens, particularly the young, to embrace the ideals of unity, hard labor, and patriotism to make important contributions to national and district development.
The event served as a reminder of Ghana’s journey to freedom, as well as citizens’ common responsibility to work together to build a stronger, more affluent society.
