Mr Daniel Kenneth, Okere District Chief Executive (DCE), says the measures put in place against the spread of the coronavirus was adequate to protect the public during the voter registration exercise scheduled to begin on June 30.
He said government was bent on protecting the Ghanaian citizenry from contracting the virus and had adequately resourced the Electoral Commission (EC) to put in place measures that would protect every person from Covid-19 at the registration centers.
The DCE who was addressing Okere Constituency Executives, Polling Station Executives, delegates and Party faithful at a ceremony to endorse Mr Dan Botwe as the parliamentary candidate, urged the public to participate in the exercise to ensure a massive turn out on December 7.
The DCE indicated that every registration centre would be provided with hand washing stations, hand sanitizers and everyone would be required to wear face masks with strict adherence to social distancing protocol for the safety of the public.
Mr Kenneth charged the Polling Station Executives to intensify education on the voter registration to the electorates “so they would understand that without registering they could not vote come December 7, to elect President Nana Akufo-Addo for the second term and Mr Dan Botwe to continue their good works”.
He noted that there were so much misconceptions surrounding the voters register, but what was important was that people registered massively to guarantee their right to vote come December 7, to ensure that NPP win with a margin of the 2,000 that they were hoping for in the Constituency.
According to the DCE, the NPP government had done so much within the three and half years in power, and that the people could not afford to lose their voting right, which would enable them to endorse him for another term.
The delegates had met to unanimously endorse Mr Dan Botwe, incumbent Member of Parliament for Okere and Minister for Regional Re-organization and Development for the fourth consecutive time for the 2020 parliamentary elections.
At the close of nomination, the incumbent Member of Parliament was the only candidate who had filed nomination and in line with the NPP guidelines, was popularly acclaimed by all 486 delegates at separate meetings in strict adherence to the social distancing protocol.
