STRENGTHENING SKILLS FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS – NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME INITIATIVE

The National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) has received a boost following a donation of tools and equipment to hairdressers and dressmakers aimed at strengthening vocational skills development and promoting self-reliance among young artisans. The items were presented at the District Assembly’s forecourt during a brief ceremony attended by beneficiaries, heads of departments, community leaders, representatives of the National Apprenticeship Programme, the Member of Parliament Hon Kenneth Nana Addo, District Coordinating Director, Madam Candis Kape Pwavra and District Chief Executive, Hon. William Ayettey.

The donation forms part of ongoing efforts to empower trainees under the programme with practical resources needed to enhance their work and improve productivity. Speaking at the event, The DCE  Hon. William Ayettey emphasized the importance of supporting vocational training as a pathway to employment and economic growth. He noted that providing essential tools to hairdressers and dressmakers would not only improve the quality of their services but also help them expand their businesses. “Skills development remains one of the most effective ways to address unemployment, especially among the youth. By equipping our apprentices with the right tools, we are investing in their future and the future of our communities,” he said. He also implored the beneficiaries to take good care of the machines.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful. Many noted that access to modern equipment would enable them to serve more customers, increase their income, and train others in their respective trades. Officials of the National Apprenticeship Programme reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that participants receive not only training but also the necessary support to transition into sustainable employment

The donation included hair dryers, clippers, sewing machines, industrial knitting machines, and other essential materials used in hairdressing and dressmaking. Organizers indicated that similar support initiatives are expected to be rolled out in other communities in the coming months.

The National Apprenticeship Programme continues to play a key role in bridging the skills gap by providing structured training and mentorship opportunities for young people across various vocational sectors
